How to be happy in life (Part 1)

I plan to write my understanding or formula of how to be happy in life in a multi part series. I have learned them by my own experience in life and I believe in them. Obviously others may not agree, but like I said in the beginning, these writing are not meant to advice anyone, these are my notes to myself.

Broadly speaking, there are three ways one can be happy in life:

1. Satisfy the bigger needs of life
2. Satisfy the smaller needs of life
3. Satisfy the wants in life

The main problem is to identify the bigger and smaller needs and wants in life. I see many people who are constantly unhappy about their "wants". They want these, they want that. But those are not "needed" in their lives and they can live happily without them. But they lose their sleep over them and sometime even break relationship over them. That's is so silly.

There are many things in life that we "want", but fewer things that we "need". First we need to make sure we have our needs fullfilled., then we should spend time to sort out what from the list of "wants" we can get.

Funny names

I noticed a lot of people call their loved ones funny names. Almost always there will be a story behind the name and only the closed ones will know how it came about. That is the charm of it. These does not have to be only between husband and wives. It could be between father-son, father-daughter, mother-son, mother-daughter, lovers or husband-wife.

I also call my lover funny names too. They are among the following and I am not telling which names I call her -:) That's between her and I.

"Shomonee"
"Shonka"
"Mainka"
"Zadu"
"Shonamoni".
"Pakhi"
"Shona"

Oh, by the way, my lover happend to be my wife -:) She is 50% friend, 25% lover and 25% wife.

Journalists to help spread aids

I was reading the Ajker Kajog ( a Bangla daily newspaper) the other day and a news hit me right in the middle of my heart. This very old woman was picking up "kachu" ( a kind of plant that grows near the pond, but can be eaten as vegetable) for her "Seheree" (latenight supper for fasting). She only had water for her Iftar (breaking fast) yesterday and she has nothing to eat in the Iftar today!

I understand that there are thousands of people like around the world, perhaps more in one country than others, but rarely do we think about that when we eat every day.

It is easy to criticise the government for not doing enough. But I don't really think any goernment can gurantee that every citizen will go to sleep with a full stomach. We are not living in an platonic world!

However, the government should know what is happening around the country for sure. But what am I saying! The District Commissioner is busy entertaining the VIPs at their guest houses and he doesn't have time for this "petty" matters!

So I was thining how about distributing special kind of aids through the journalists? For instance, if I had a way to send some small amount (say $50.00) to the journalist who wrote this news piece, then next time around he could give the money to this woman. In that way, throughout the country thousands of journalists who are seeing the reality as real as it can get can in turn let us know and we can help any way we can.

This is like giving the medicine exactly where it is needed. Just a thought.

The beginning ...

This blog is going to be my own memo to myself. I constantly think about many topics sucs as life, the world, religion, philoshopy, science etc. I want to use this blog to express myself freely and openly. It is like a journey to my inner self.

I think it is a wonderful idea to know myself and understand who I really am. Over time I may think about certain topics differently. This blog will help me to understand why I thought about it differently then.

I will span my writing from simple topics to the most bizzare and unconventional topics. I may write about what I picked from my vegetable garden yesterday to what I think would a possible solution for the Unified theroy. So there will be no limitation on the topics. Let's see how it goes.
